Secil RB Lime render coming on nicely in Rathpeacon with Liam Sloane and the Youghal men on the tools overseen by Summerhill Construction. Working on in-situ quoins this week and all looking great.

Bespoke repair mortars

A little thank you to Pual and Hazel and all the crew in Stoneware for all your hard work. After so many years, Paul has made dozens and dozens of bespoke ‘Plastic’ repair mortars (all 100% lime based, of course) for repairs to umpteen bricks, faience, terracotta, just about every sendimentary rock in Ireland, quite a few valcanics, lots of Roman Cements and Portland and Bath stones.
Restoration work

Seachurch, Ballycotton, looking beautiful in the August sun. What a lovely restoration work, and such a success story.
Mortar Analysis

Hitting a milestone this week in Stoneware with our 1,000th sample of mortar analysed in Ireland. A LOT of work over 20 years has gone into assessing and understanding historic mortars from Derry City Walls to Mizen Lighthouse, across the Armada ballast of wreckage off Inisbofin, Co. Galway to Magazine Fort in Phoenix Park. And it’s busier now than ever with 3 months fully booked in advance, but if you want help understanding what mortar you have do get in touch.
Lime and Breathable paint
We do like the Big Houses, but these compact gatelodges have oodles of history and character too, and I’m sure the gatekeepers of old would have had no end of stories and secrets. Salterbridge (lime and breathable paint), Glendine (lime mortar) and Muckross (Lime and EcoCork insulating plaster)
Earthborn Claypaint

Not 100% sure where these two lovely Earthborn clay paint colours; ‘Seagull’ and ‘Donkey Ride’; got their names from but maybe they were dreaming of bygone trips to the front strand in Youghal. Enjoy the weekend.
Dublin Heritage Buildings Show

Lovely to spend the weekend chatting to lots of new and old friends at Dublin Heritage Building Show in Merrion Square Park. Not least my co-host and old pal, the ever-young Peter Kelly from Conservation Technology. Also shout out to Shane and the Nolans crew next door and all the BFLI people. It was really great to catch up. Special thanks to the Irish Georgian Society for inviting us each year. Excellent job again Emmeline.
Training at Pilmore

So nice to have a full house this morning at our Lime Rendering and Plastering Course. There’s a real appetite for learning out there at the moment. 3 more course on Decoration of Old Buildings, Pointing, and Insulating Old buildings before the end of the month so it’s all go in Pilmore.
National Gallery

Looking forward to working at the Dublin Heritage building show next week in Merrion Square. Hope to find the time to pop next door to check out our lime plaster and the masterful work by Paul Griffin Plastering (and maybe look at a painting or two).
